Christos Mammides

Dr. Christos Mammides is a graduate of San Diego State University, USΑ, with a BSc degree in Biology with emphasis in Ecology. He earned his MA degree in Conservation Biology from Columbia University, USΑ, and his PhD degree in the same subject from Imperial College London, UK.

For his PhD dissertation, Dr. Mammides used statistical modelling to quantify the effects of human activities on  bird communities in protected areas in Kenya and Cyprus.
In 2014, he joined Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in China as a Postdoctoral Fellow to research new acoustic technologies for biodiversity monitoring, and to study the effects of tropical deforestation on the associations of birds in mixed-species flocks in India and Sri Lanka. Following the completion of his fellowship, Dr. Mammides joined Guangxi University, China, as an Associate Professor, where he continued to work on the above topics and on the factors that affect the effectiveness of protected areas globally.

Dr. Mammides has published over 40 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including Global Environmental Change, Environmental Research Letters, Sustainability Science, and Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences. He is an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Conservation Science and a Research Topic Editor for Frontiers in Forests and Global Change. Dr. Mammides has served as an external reviewer for over 30 peer-reviewed journals.
