CEDRUS
Vulnerability of the narrow endemic Cedrus brevifolia from Cyprus
The objectives of this project were the detection of gene and phenotypic-anatomic traits diversity of Cedrus brevifolia, as a consequence of this species' adaptation (genetic and morphological) in its natural population. The influence of local environmental conditions (i.e. meteorological and soil data) to the shaped adaptation were also assessed.
The results expected to suggest the ability of the C. brevifolia population to adapt efficiently and rapidly to changed circumstances (i.e. climatic change, diseases). Finally, the project aimed to add new information towards developing a conservation strategy of the Cyprus cedar genetic resources, through a sustainable management of its one population.
