BioINSouth
Supporting regional environmental sustainability assessment for the BIO-based sectors to improve INnovation, INdustries and INclusivity in SOUTH Europe
Bioeconomy has the potential to generate new green jobs in rural and coastal regions. However, the expansion of this sector must be balanced with environmental considerations to ensure a sustainable growth.
The BioINSouth project aims to assist decision makers in southern European regions with integrating ecological limits into their bioeconomy strategies and roadmaps. Through the development of guidelines and digital tools, the project seeks to foster circular bio-based activities while minimising environmental impact.
BioINSouth is planning to establish regional hubs involving various stakeholders -policymakers, experts, small businesses and civil society, especially non-governmental organisations - in countries with a great potential for bioeconomy development like Cyprus, Slovenia, Greece, and Portugal. These hubs will facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange, thereby enhancing regional competitiveness and innovation while also contributing to the EU's fair and green transition. The project will also involve broader participation from other southern countries, including Spain, France, and Italy, as well as international cooperation with Turkey and Argentina, members of its advisory committee, to create replicable models for sustainable bioeconomy development in southern Europe.
